Don't Lose Focus

Several years ago, I remember sitting in my friend Rhonda's living room and we were having a serious conversation.  She was talking about her employment situation.  She was doing a job she loved but for an employer that didn't value her.  After doing the job for two years, she was still on term.  Worse than that, her term would end periodically and then she would be off work for two weeks and then be hired back on an indefinite term and the cycle would repeat.  It was difficult on her marriage and her pocket book to go on living like that.  She said very seriously, "sometimes I wonder how I am going to feed my children." Although this was a serious statement, we both burst out laughing.  We started laughing until tears ran down our eyes.  The reason was that Rhonda's house was filled with food.  They had two full fridges in their kitchen.  They had one full freezer in the house and two full freezers occupying the garage.  Their...

Much Ado About Nothing - Part 2

About a year ago, I was betrayed by a friend.   (I think, well, I was almost positive.)  I was really hurt.  I didn`t expect this and it was a hard one to get over.  My first thought was to find a way to seek revenge.  This friend had hurt me badly and I didn`t think I would be able to get over it until I hurt him equally as bad so he knew what it felt like.  I actually have a lot of experience seeking revenge as I have been hurt more than once.  Much like, everyone on the planet.  However, seeking revenge has led to more problems in my life, so I know this revenge this never works out well for me.  I just let myself feel the feeling fully.  It just hurt.  I didn`t allow myself to judge my feelings.  I didn`t try to rationalize it.  I didn`t blame myself for what he did.  After all, we had a complicated relationship.  I realized every relationship is complicated.  So, I just hurt.  After a wh...

Same story - different perspectives

My friend, Denise, posted something on my facebook wall.   It said: "Fifty Shades of Grey is romantic only because the guy is a billionaire.  If he was living in a trailer, it would be a Criminal Minds episode." It is pretty obvious why she thought this statement would be something that I wanted to explore.  No, I am not into Submission and Domination, but I am in exploring how there are always different perspectives to every story. We usually say in every story there are atleast three sides to the story; her side, his side, and the truth.  Usually both sides are telling "their truth" and they do believe it because it the truth from their perspective. It is perplexing to many why Fifty Shades of Grey was such the run-away best seller that it was.  One of the reasons why it was such a hit was that it actually was a good piece of literature.  It was extremely well written.  It the days when we are so busy that a complicated news story needs to be...
