Patient Dumping

I had never heard this term until today when I perchance happened upon it.  Earlier this week, in Baltimore, an incident was recorded by a bystander.  This incident happened out of the University of Maryland hospital where two security guards were recorded taking a female patient wearing a hospital gown and little else and "dumping" her on the street.  It was pretty cold this week in Baltimore.  After this video went viral, the CEO of the hospital apologized profusely for the incident.  It seemed to me that his apology was for getting caught.

From there, I went to look up patient dumping which is the practice of a hospital dumping patients outside when they can't afford their care.  It is particularly prevalent among patients who are suffering mental illness or who are homeless.  It is something that is so common that it has its own definition.  Not only does it has its own definition, it also has a law against it.  President Reagan signed this law but it doesn't seem to have lessened the problem.  I read about many cases of this over the last couple of decades and one particularly egregious case in Los Angeles where a paraplegic was left in the middle of skid row without a wheelchair.

These cases show humanity at its worst.   Where is the compassion for the vulnerable?  It is overwhelmingly tragic that this happens so frequently that there is a law made against this.  Despite the law, this is still happening.  I can't imagine anyone thinking this is the America that they want it to be.  There is outrage about this on social media, but, I know it will pass.

Yes, there is outrage about this on social media, however, in the mainstream media, I didn't see this story reported.  Instead, for the last 24 hours, I have seen nothing but commentary about Trump calling some nations a sh*thole.

A crazy man making crazy statements.  When are we going to realize that this is not news.   Why do we give this narcissist more attention than he deserves.  When the real news is going unreported.  Ironically, it does appear that one nation is indeed a sh*thole and is led by the person pointing fingers.
