Brewing Disputes
Last week, a poll came out about trusted Canadian companies. Tim Horton's has always been in the top 10 since this poll started. Last year, it was ranked 4th. This year it dropped to 50th. I sat down and tried to identify Canadian companies. I got to 32. So, for Tim Horton's to drop to 50 is pretty remarkable. What it says to be that Canadians don't share the profits first and foremost philosophy that Tim Horton's obviously has.
Dare I say, Canadians feel betrayed by Tim's trying to influence us by using our values against us. Tim's currently has an advertising campaign going on promoting themselves as getting neighbours together. I hope they pull this sickening campaign immediately. #HumboldtStrong has proven that we don't need any help from a profits first company in getting together and supporting each other. Don't trivialize our spirit by suggesting we would get along better with a cup of coffee.
When this poll was released, one of my friends posted about branding and why it was so important. She noted that most of us represent brands when we are out in public and one person can truly make a difference, noting that just a couple of franchises in Ontario have basically brought down this company. Well, not just yet, but it is coming. And, this friend is totally correct. One or two people can make an enormous impact. Now, that is a traditional Canadian value. Everyone can make an enormous impact. Do you want that impact to be positive or negative? It is within your control.
Also, last week, Tim Horton's released a renovation plan which would total $700 Million. Canadians were not amused and many told Tim's better ways to use that $700 million laying around.
This morning the news is that one franchise is being denied a licence renewal after 17 years in business. The owners have been ordered to vacate the premises immediately. I am not crying any tears for the owners. The man had founded the Great North Franchisees and sued the parent company in 2017 for basically being a bully and being too centred on profits. Like, you just figured this out and you were happy to be part of this when you were printing money. No, I can't shed a tear for anyone other than the employees who will be affected.
Meanwhile, I have a Keurig and it brews me a lovely cup of coffee. I hope to spend many mornings in 2018 enjoying a cup of joe while watching this company self-destruct.
