Northern RCMP Detachment Issues Tickets
I read via twitter today that a northern RCMP detachment issued 8 tickets over the weekend for violating travel ban due to Covid19; 7 residents of Winnipeg and 1 resident of Dauphin. Apparently, all 8 people knew of the travel restriction but decided it was more important for them to see family and friends. If you are a regular reader, you may know that I am from Dauphin and believe all people from Dauphin are inherently without fault. Well, this entry really isn't about people from Dauphin.
I have made it my mission to come out of the pandemic induced State of Emergency healthier. I want to start consistently losing weight slowly as the result of eating better and moving more. I want my cognition to get a tune-up as well and I am trying to exercise my mind. I am trying to improve my mental health by increasing positive moments in my life and not allowing negative energy to occupy space within me. That one is the hardest to achieve.
Nevertheless, I continue to do my best to doing some strength exercises at home and going for long walks during the day. There has been the odd day that I have been excited to go for an extended adventure, but, for the most part, it is still struggle to get moving. I think it is because I am projecting my own judgments on myself. If I saw myself walking, I would make a comment about that obese woman walking. But, I am doing it. I am also doing my best to take the road less traveled. I am choosing routes that are likely going to have the least people.
Every single walk has given me an example of people not following provincial guidelines for social distancing. Every day, I seem to pass a gas station and see out of province licence plates. The first few examples I saw were Ontario or Saskatchewan so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought they were new residents of Manitoba that didn't have a chance to change their plates. But, I have seen all provinces represented since then. I haven't seen any of the Territories. Today, I saw a BC licence plate. I thought there were restrictions on travel. Apparently not.
So, I think it is great that the RCMP issued tickets and wonder what extreme behavior led to these tickets. In the City of Winnipeg, we can't even enforce the smoking in public bylaw. I notice at the Concert Hall bus stop, they have given up and installed a place to place your butts.
I am doing everything I can to follow social distancing guidelines. It isn't easy. I really want to go out with my friends. I want to go to a bar and sing karaoke. I want to hug my grandson in Alberta. I want to volunteer for my favorite causes. I want to go to my friend's cabin and participate in a real-time wine ninja. I want to go see some live comedy so I can laugh until I cry. I want to go out and do stand-up and make people laugh until they cry.
However, I am not doing any of that. I am following the restrictions of my political and medical leadership. And, I am hoping that I am not alone.
I am not happy that someone from Dauphin received a ticket but I am very grateful that people are being held accountable for their actions. We were the ones who chose to live in this society and we need to follow the rules set by our society representatives.
