America Owes Trump Immense Gratitude

My mother's favorite media personality was Don Lemon.  For some reason, I feel obligated to watch Don Lemon most evenings in order to honour my mother's memory.  I have noticed that Don, and so many other political analysts keep confusing the issues with facts.  Don, especially, seems to have this nasty habit of making good points in discussion.  Seriously.  How can people continue to defend Trump with all these people bringing up good points and inconvenient facts?  The reality is that America needs to start giving Trump the gratitude that he deserves.

Think about it.  He has singularly saved the publishing industry. Who was reading books five years ago?  No one.  Now, every day, there is a new book out "telling all" about the President.  They are either "telling all" or "sucking up".  Regardless,  books everywhere, you just can't keep track.  No one has ever seen anything like it.

That is not the only industry he has singularly saved.  How many lawyers owe their practices to either defending or suing all things Trump?   Drafting non-disclosure agreements, civil disputes from thousands of ex-employees, that is a cottage industry in itself. How many forensic accountants are working solely on something related to Trump?  Honestly, did that designation even exist before Trump.  For sure, the IRS probably has had to build a new building to accommodate the amount of staff members that are devoted to auditing Trump.  Not to mention that for lawyers and law enforcement officials are only going to be busier once Trump leaves office.  The ripple effects of the Trump Presidency will be going for generations.

Trump's value to the entertainment industry is immeasurable.  I dare you to find a reputable comedian who does not mention Trump once in their act.  The jokes write themselves.  I haven't made sure I am home on Saturday nights to watch SNL since the 80s.  I also remember a time when Alec Baldwin was considered a national treasure when he yelled at his daughter.  Trump has erased all of that.  We simply can't get enough Alec Baldwin.  SNL writers experienced more stress this week than they have cumulatively in years because there was just too much material.  And, if he spends $70,000/year to get his hair looking like it does, can you imagine how much he spends in makeup?  Talk-show staff, be honest, would you really have a job if not for Trump?  He goes out of his way to give you material.

The tanning industry owes their survival to Trump.  And, I actually mean, to Trump. No one else is doing it, but, he does it more than enough for the industry to survive.

Trump is right when he says that he has done more for the military than any other President.  If he didn't go around pissing off everyone in the world except those like-minded autocrats, the military would not be as needed.  He alone has been the biggest threat to national security creating the continued need for national security.

Sports and all the spin-offs of sports owe a tremendous gratitude to Trump.  Americans love to cheer and they love to cheer for heroes.  They can't look to their President, so the sports industry has boomed with people looking for someone to cheer for and for a distraction from the reality show that Trump is over-seeing.

Trump is completely right that the media will miss him when he is gone because of the ratings. He is right about the ratings.  Remember a time when you could go a day without compulsively checking the news.  You kind of felt confident that people will just go about their daily lives and nothing much would happen.  Not anymore.  People don't feel confident going to the bathroom without taking their phones just to monitor what is going on.  You just never know.

Trump is like a huge employment agency for young beautiful women who are otherwise unqualified for any other position.  I can't even imagine the amount of cosmetic surgery is due to working for him. I never knew there was such a market for sleeveless dresses until Kayleigh McEnany came into our lives. Just when we thought we had gone beyond appearances, Trump has ensured that little girls will grow up with unrealistic demands for beauty.  Therapists for generations to come will have enough business to continue to thrive.  You know that Trump Derangement Syndrome is going to become mainstream.  I think I already have it.  It is only a matter of time before the pharmaceutical industry is spending millions researching a drug that will save us from it.

The promotions industry.  Buttons.  Hats. Signs.  T-shirts.  Before Trump, that was antiquated.  Now, people feel the need to identify which "side" they are on.  The promotions industry is grateful. Hot air, I mean, helium for balloons is also on the upswing.  Fast food industry.  Seriously, how much stock does he have in McDonald's or how much does he get for all the free advertising.

Seriously, with so many people whose jobs depend on his antics, what are they going to do when he is gone?  Seriously, what does Biden have to offer these people?  He is stable, compassionate, honest, and humble.  Like, really, how is that going to create jobs?  The political process being safe, predictable, and proceeding with a sense of decency and cooperation.  Boring.  I was wondering how people were going to criticize Dr. Biden. Like she is too intelligent, too principled?

Trump has also benefited countries all over the world.  I live in Canada and there is preparation started in the event that the US has a civil war.  Trump has certainly helped with Canadian unity.  If Trump ever decides that he wants to build a wall with Canada, I can reasonably assure that we will pay for it.

So, I confess.  My tongue has been a little bit in my cheek.  But, on the next point, I am very serious. Without Trump, I would have never known that white supremacists still exist.  I guess I was naive but I thought a white supremacist only existed in history.  Whether he has directly contributed to this or not, groups that promote hate to others on the basis of their demographics have found their voice. For some reason, people feel comfortable sharing this abhorrent point of view.  I have been shocked that people I know hold these views.  Shocked and saddened, of course.  However, after getting over the shock, I am actually glad that people have revealed themselves for who they are. I wouldn't have known otherwise.  Without Trump, I never would have known such ugliness exists and that those of us who believe in social justice have a lot of work ahead of them.

Grateful.  NOT GRATEFUL.
