Bowman Advantage?

One of the reasons that I like living in Winnipeg is Dan Lett.  I think he provides superlative opinions and reporting of city topics.  He covers stories from a wide-range of perspectives and often asks questions that I would never think of.  His opinions are usually well-deduced and his thought patterns make a lot of sense.  I rarely disagree with him.  

Today, he wrote an opinion about Mayor Bowman's advantage in the current election.  There is no blackout during elections so the Mayor has an advantage as many of his regular activities could be described as campaign activities.  

I agree that it is a potential advantage, however, Mayor Bowman is not using it to his advantage.  All he is doing is attending photo opportunities.  I already know that he is a good cheerleader.  He proved that last year in the Jets drive in the playoffs where he was on NBC TV cheering for Winnipeg.  I already know that he able to walk dogs during his lunch hour to high-light the needs of animals in need of adoption.  I know he can do all that.  Him repeatedly letting us know that he is a handsome guy and looks good in photo opportunities does nothing for me.

I have learned to be a discriminating voter.  I have learned that our city has a number of real issues.  The city's infrastructure is crumbling and we are in the midst of a meth crisis that is permeating through all of our neighbourhoods.  I want a Mayor who has a plan.  I want substance over style.

I know I am an insignificant blogger but I have some questions to ask Bowman and I asked for an interview.  He prefers photo-opportunities to responding to his constituents.  I don't blame him.  I don't think he wants to answer for his lack of action over the last four years, and I don't think he wants to be questioned on his lack of plan for the future.

2 - 4 - 6 - 8.   Who do we appreciate?

For me, substance over style, and I can tell the difference.

I felt compelled to attend an information meeting of the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre.  Compelled because it will be, not in my neighbourhood, but in my City Ward.  Compelled after reading Bruce's story and his family's wish to make this recovery centre his legacy.  Compelled because of the opposition to this centre.  I wanted my voice to be a positive one. There's Something from Jenny - Part 2

I am trying to evolve as a blogger.  One of my friends told me that I needed to start adding my pictures to my blog so that people would know who they are communicating with.  So, good, bad, or ugly, I am adding my picture as much as I can.  It makes me feel vulnerable.  Not as vulnerable as I would feel if I was running for Mayor of a major Canadian city. Seriously? Opposition to BORC opening at old Vimy Arena Site

I decided to go for a walk today.  It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  My quest was to understand the home owner's opposition to having the closed arena site being converted to a much needed addiction treatment facility.  I took some pictures on my phone and want to explain what I found out.  The first picture was taken while I was standing on the immense green space at the back of the old Vimy Arena.  You can see in the background what is the closest residential development.  It is a town house complex.  In order for someone who was participating in treatment at BORC to interact with someone living in the complex, they would have to walk and then cross a creek, and then get through the trees.  I would think the residents living in that complex would be more worried about the drainage pipe that leads on the creek.  I would be concerned about a wandering child being trapped in there.  The second pic...
