Common Sense Change/Solutions

Sometimes, you just want a nap.  Can you relate?

Yeah, I will admit it.  I am one of those grandmother's who shamelessly look for any opportunity to show pictures of her grandson.  However, this time, these photos illustrate the premise behind my blog.  What my grandson is doing is finding a common sense solution to a complex problem.  He wanted a nap and used the resources that were readily available to him to come up with a solution.  He used his common sense.   And, before you tell me, taking a nap is not a complex problem, let me tell you, for a 2 year old visiting grandma, there is no more complex of a problem.  Visiting grandma means that you are manipulate her to be off schedule, grandma just wants to cuddle, play, or feed you, and taking a nap means you might miss something.  Plus, when you are two, you have this whole "I don't need a nap, I'm in the terrible twos" thing going on.

The world is not young.  Problems are not young.  Problems are as old as time.  What has happened in the technology age is that we have made problems more complicated then they need to be.  We have become used to task forces, think tanks, committees, etc.  We have forgotten what is inate to us.  We have forgotten common sense.  What we need to do is make common sense common practice.

Apparently, Canada now has the distinction of being the nation that has the highest per capita debt in the world.  One of our major networks devoted a whole week to a series called "Debt Nation".  Experts were interviewed, people tweeted in their debt confessions, whole shows were devoted to the debt crisis.  It is not rocket science.  It is debt.  There is a common sense solution.  Don't spend money you don't have.  It isn't any more complicated than that.  At the same time that I was hearing about our record tank, the North American stock markets were tanking.  I don't have a lot of money but I lost 5 figures in the last two weeks.  (I know it will rebound, crossing my fingers) Yet, during this time, every restaurant had a full parking lot every night and I had trouble finding a parking space at two malls.  People weren't using common sense.  When you have less money available, adjust your spending accordingly.  Stay home, have a better meal, and use that $100 you were going to spend to pay down a credit card.  Credit card companies even tell us this, in their own way.  You know when they say, "If you only make minimum payment, it will take you 37 years to pay this off."  It really is common sense but not common practice.

Go ahead.  Challenge me.  Tell me a problem that you are having and I will show you a common sense solution.  Mass shootings in the US?  Take guns away from people.  Hate crimes?  Have credible leadership telling us to love and not hate.  Racism?  That is based on ignorance so educate people.  I am not naive, I know problems can't be solved over night, but, I do believe that we can make our corner of the world better and in that way, we can affect positive change.

After all, it is common sense.
