Will December 12 ever come?
This special Senate election in Alabama seems to be the longest in history. I am counting the hours now, a little more than 48, until it is over.
Long before the allegations came to the surface, I already was convinced that Roy Moore was a joke. The rally when he dressed up as a Village People singer toting a real gun made that clear. Now that the allegations keep coming forward, I have learned that he is also dangerous. However, what is very troubling is that he is going to win.
Alabama is just a red Republican state and it has been for 20 years. Roy Moore will never shake the asterisk behind his name in the minds of the American public, but he, unfortunately will also have the title of Senator in front of his name, so he won't really care much. For some unknown reason, the allegations against him are not sticking. It is wrong, of course, but it is also reality so we have just lost this fight, so we need to stop wasting energy on it. We need to stop depleting our energy and saving it for battles that we can win.
It is sad that Trump has come to endorse him lately and essentially campaign for him only because Trump, the narcissist will think the victory is because of him. He thinks that will be a source of pride for him instead of realizing how much shame it brings to his office. But, again, he could care less. Trump truly believes his own rhetoric.
So, we need this election to be over so we can get back to normal, so to speak. We need Roy Moore to fade back into obscurity, just collecting his pay cheque and being satisfied with that until the next election when he can quietly decline to run again for personal reasons.
We need to get back to believing the victims recognizing how painful it is to come forward. Yes, every case must be evaluated individually but it shouldn't be evaluated by misogynists with their own agenda.
The Silence Breakers are the Time People of the Year and there is still more than need to come forward before we can move forward. We must create a climate where they feel comfortable coming forward. Women have got to come together and believe that we need to start working together rather than being divided. We need to claim our power together. We don't have to agree, but, we need to be the one's debating "feminist" issues. No longer should we allow to decide reproductive rights. We need to tell males that they are welcome to weigh on those issues only when they have a vagina.
Yes, December 12 will be a sad day, but then the sun will come up tomorrow. We will get through this.
