Waving Privilege - #Persist #SpeakHerTruth
Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould may be speaking to the Justice Committee of the House of Commons as early as tomorrow. As I write this, I think they are still ironing out some logistics. She wants to do a 30 minute speech upfront before her questioning to speak her truth. The Prime Minister has waived her Privilege on this one matter and also waived her Cabinet Privilege to allow her to speak her truth. I am interested in what she has to say.
Meanwhile, south of the border, Michael Cohen is apparently speaking for three days in front of various committees of the House of Congress and Senate. He has lied to both groups before. No one really cares what he has to say. Basically, anyone who worked for Trump for more than 10 minutes and was either fired or quit has written a tell-all. I've heard all of their news bites and I am no longer shocked or interested.
A couple of months ago, Bill Cosby sent a message of his truth to the world via his wife Camille while she visited him in prison. He was unapologetic of the crimes which put him in jail. He thought people would be interested in his truth. Perhaps, there were a few. After all, he is elderly, blind, and generally pathetic. There are some who feel sorry for him and feel he shouldn't be held accountable for his actions at his advanced aged.
I just find it interesting that this is the first time that I have heard of Solicitor-Client Privilege in reference to the Justice Minister of Canada and her colleagues. I think it is because Jody Wilson-Raybould is a woman.
I think if it was a man, he would just defend himself. He wouldn't wait for an invitation to speak his truth. He would be on every news channel, write a book, and write a guest column for some obscure publication ala Jian Ghomishi.
Women are more conditioned to keeping quiet. Speak when spoken to, that kind of thing. Most of us have some sort of male patriarch who sets these rules. It was no coincidence that the first person that came to Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould's defense was her father. One of her "closest" allies in Cabinet was Jane Philpott. Even she did not publicly come out in defense of her friend. Instead, she posted a picture of them together on Instagram.
I have recently been advised by a male patriach of what I can and can not say in my blog. If I wasn't so miffed, it would be funny. I have an insignificant little blog that he notes is poorly written. Yet, he sure spends a great deal of time worrying about it. He thinks it weakens me, but it actually makes me stronger. It is just what he is so afraid of me saying is of so little interest that I don't want to waste my time on it.
Like the pearls in the picture. They mean a lot to me, but I can't speak about them because that would be against the edict sent down by someone who only has control of me in his mind. In truth, he has no control. But, I will honour his edict and I won't speak my truth about the pearls.
And they say male white privilege doesn't exist anymore. It does.
