NDP have No Interest In Winning Provincial Election

When I was in University, there are "Young" political parties at every campus.  Many of the Young Conservatives and Young Liberals used this as valuable experience to translate into political careers.  There was one thing about "Young NDPs".  They were no fun.  The other "young" clubs took "parties" to define themselves.  There were a lot of fun and meetings usually involved alcohol.  Not so for the Young New Democrats, they were part of a movement.  They didn't have much electoral success but they were committed to social ideals and that was a heavy burden to bear.  Not only were they New Democrats but they were the party that had evolved from the CCF.  The CCF had loftier socialist goals.

That was a long time ago.  Now, most Parties get their policy from the polls and there is very little difference in their positions.  If you can remember, NAFTA was brought in by Prime Minister Mulroney.  There was a federal election fought on that.  The Liberals had an effective tv ad about changing one line in the agreement and it was deleting the border.  The Liberals pledged that they would tear up the agreement if they formed the government.  Well, that never happened and the Liberals are now passionate defenders of the agreement.  The Conservatives were the ones who brought in the GST and the Liberals were opposed.  Time passed.  The Conservatives wanted to lower the GST by 1% and the Liberals opposed and said it should remina as it was.  Things change.

The NDP has moved closer to the Centre in order to broader their base.  They have softened some of their lofty goals.  It is not so much a movement as just another political party.

I live in the provincial riding of Kirkfield Park.  It is a swing riding.  At one time, the leader of the Conservatives, Stuart Murray, held that riding.  It is currently Conservative again.  Prior to that, it was held by NDP Sharon Blady for almost a decade.  Sharon Blady is a superstar and only lost the riding because of the winds of change.

The Provincial rdiing is very winnable for the NDP.  However, they have decided that they are not interested in winning this riding by their candidate.  He is young and only political experience in running for City Council last year.  He did not live here but chose to run because it thought it would be easier to win.  Also, he declined invitations to be interviewed for my blog.  If he can't handle tough questions from an insignificant blogger like me, how does he expect to be successful?  Also, if the NDP had reviewed his previous campaign literature, they would find that his values are not consistent with the left.  He just wants a job.  Also, he was opposed to having the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre being located at the old Vimy Arena site.  He agreed that more treatment was needed, just not there.

Again, he just wantes a job and will run anywhere.  And, it seems the NDP just want candidates.
