Start of WW3?
I really am sick of blogging about President Trump. I really don't want to give this man any energy, but, unfortunately, I think it is going to be a long 4 years.
So, Trump sent limited air missile attacks to Syria targeted at the place where the chemical gas attacks originated. This is very sad to think that diplomacy will never work in this situation, but, I'm even more saddened to think that this was the right choice. I think the people of Syria have sufferred so much that they needed a sign, a show of strength from the world. that this has to stop.
People are worried that this will cause WW3 because the Russians are supporting the existing Syrian regime. I don't think we have to lose sleep yet. The Russians issued a lukewarm condemnation of the US action.
Even though I reluctantly think he did the right thing, everything about it still reeks of Trump's con artist approach to government.
First of all, he said he was deeply affected by the pictures of innocent children who were victims of the chemical attacks. I don't think anyone really believes this. He was obviously deeply affected by the million twitter feeds criticizing his response. Governance by twitter.
Secondly, in 2013, when President Obama went to Congress trying to get approval for limited targeted military intervention, Trump tweeted 40 times that this was the worst idea ever and would lead to WW3.. Perhaps, if he tweeted only 10 times, we could overlook his hypocrisy.
Which raises an interesting question. Doesn't he need Congressional Approval for military action? Trump responds by saying that President Obama couldn't get that in 2013, so that means he is not even going to try. Can anyone other than President Trump follow that logic? I mean, other than those whose surname is Trump, or is married to someone whose surname is Trump. Also, has anything changed since 2013? For example, don't Republicans have a majority in both houses? How can he have so little respect for his colleagues and the institutions that define America?
So, in this case, I reluctantly think he did the right things, but for all the wrong reasons. I don't think this will be the start of WW3, however, I do think it is the start of something, and I have little faith that it will be the start of something positive.
