Who Wore it Best: Trump or O'Leary
I used to be a real fan of Kevin O'Leary. When Dragon's Den first came on, I learned a lot from his business insights. Also, my fiance was often mistaken for Kevin O'Leary, so that was pretty cool.
Then, as Dragon's Den became more popular, it suffered the same fate as all popular tv shows. They take what they think made them popular, and then grossly exaggerate it. Kevin O'Leary honest and direct advice became stinging and superfluous. He wasn't out to help budding entrepreneurs, he know had a soap box to embarrass and insult them. He became a cartoon character, albeit a successful one. His ego became enormous.
I guess at some point he saw what was happening south of the border. Another megalomaniac, who also starred in a reality tv show, and became a cartoon character as well, somehow thought it would be a lark to have power. Money and name recognition weren't doing it for him anymore. Somehow, that cartoon character got elected.
Kevin O'Leary obviously thought hmmm and decided he was going to try and duplicate this the Canadian way. So, he decided to run for the leadership of the Conservative. This worst kept secret of all time was officially announced one day after a French debate.
He will likely win the leadership, but that is as far as it will go. Because, it turns out when it comes to egos, Trump wears it best. Atleast, Trump pretended to care about what he was running for and he pretended to care about his constituents.
O'Leary doesn't even try. I think, as Canadians, O'Leary just isn't that interested in us. He is raising money for his campaign and not using his own funds. This suggests no personal commitment, or that he doesn't have the wealth that he purports. He has indicated that he is not going to run for Parliament until there is an election because it would be a waste of his time. Thanks for that endorsement of the institution that we wants to lead.
The worst was a couple of days ago. He was scheduled to appear in a debate. He canceled about an hour before saying that he needed to be with his wife. He apparently missed their anniversary and needing to make it up to her. Why do I think Mrs. O'Leary would be used to disappointment? Regardless, they were celebrating their anniversary in Miami. Apparently, the man who wants ultimate power in Canada doesn't think there is any place appropriate in the country to celebrate.
We definitely know that he was in Miami because he did an interview there for MSNBC talking about Donald Trump's Presidency. O'Leary is so not into us that he doesn't even comment on our politics, he is too busy spreading his foolery in the US. Isn't MSNBC the network where disgraced anchor Brian Williams works?
Yes, Kevin O'Leary you do have a giant ego and a desire for power. But, the ego is still worn best on Trump. Maybe consider a toupee?
