Ethiopian Tragedy
The world is mourning the lives of too many. This tragedy has struck the United Nations and Canada as we mourn the loss of 18 Canadians. As the news is unfolding, we are hearing more about the aircraft and the response of other countries. There is sadness of so many different levels that it is hard to understand.
Usually when there is a tragedy of this magnitude, there is a moment when it strikes a personal cord that connects you deeply to the sense of loss. It happened last evening for me.
6 of the 18 Canadians killed were from one family from Brampton. Grand-parents, parents, and two daughters. Media like to give context on the victims and a brother and sister-in-law of the parents were interviewed. They were devastated. The sister-in-law was deeply mourning the loss of her mother-in-law. Through tears, she said she had never considered her mother-in-law to be her mother-in-law, she considered her another mother. She said her mother-in-law was also her best friend. I couldn't listen to anymore but I was crying so much. This made the tragedy very real for me.
When you are rejected from your mother-in-law, it is a very deep hurt. My mother-in-law indicates that the rejection is 100% my fault. Well, we all know that there are usually three sides to every story. In this case, she said, she said, and the truth. But, for the same of argument, I will accept 100% of the responsibility. It is all my fault. That doesn't make it hurt any less. It is very painful to be rejected from the woman that gave your partner life. It is a very deep wound in your self-worth.
It is a reminder to cherish all people in your life. Tragedy can happen at any time. Do everything you can to remind those you love that they are loved. Don't take anyone for granted.
It reminds me of the beautiful woman who made these spring rolls. She is a member of my partner's team. Each time I see her, I have to remind her to stop treating my partner so well. I'm just teasing but she does treat him too well. As do, every member of his team. He is blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people. And, I am blessed as well. They don't even know me and they treat me like a Queen. They have welcomed me into their special milestones of their lives. They have been so gracious in helping me celebrate my special days and consoling both of us when days are not so celebratory. We have been blessed by being welcomed into their families.
The beautiful woman who has filled my stomach with spring rolls has also filled my heart with grace, blessings, and compassion. Thank you. Words can't express my appreciation for all you do.
