Gerald Butts of all Jokes........
Instead, he chose to be himself, perhaps the most boring man ever. This was the same man who looked forward to testify in front of the Justice Committee because he was going to clear up this misunderstanding and save his former boss and bff, Justin Trudeau.
He didn't succeed. He did not appear credible. He didn't seem prepared. He would have been down-right boring if it wasn't for his arrogance. He really thought he was something. He really thought his testimony would have been a match for the polished, sincere, ethical, natural Jody Wilson-Raybould.
We often judge people by the people they associate with. If this was Justin Trudeau's most trusted adviser and long-time close friend, I am not impressed.
I am reminded of Pierre Elliot Trudeau. My father couldn't stand him because of his arrogance and because of a certain hand gesture he made to Western Canada. I don't really know if he flipped the bird to Western Canada. I was too young to really remember that incident. However, I have been reviewing interviews and scrums, one thing is clear to me. He would not be elected to public office in 2019. The man may be brilliant but he was arrogant. When talking to reporters, he couldn't help rolling his eyes and made it clear how he felt. I suspect he felt this "entitled" his whole entire life and not just because he was elected Prime Minister.
Then, there was Justin, his son. I have been impressed. He certainly came out of the gate strong with assertions of being the Feminist-in-Chief. When he installed his first Cabinet, they walked along Rideau Street, showing a new way, a way of being accessible to the public. Now, over the past two weeks, he has been showing that he is his father's son. He is also arrogant but he has disguised it well.
Even now, he is going to issue a statement to clear up the "misunderstanding". He is still thinking he has the magic to get himself out of this one. Arrogance. There is no one getting out of this one.
How are his opposition responding? Andrew Scheer was off making another announcement on home heating. He was trying to look above all of this and show leadership and connection to what Canadians want. That was well done. Unfortunately, he sent Lisa Raitt to comment on Butt's testimony and she indicated that she wan't to recall Jody Wilson-Raybould back to have her re-testify. Swing and a miss. Wanting to draw this out further. It was obvious who was credible and who wasn't. Time to rise above. Jagmeet Singh simply knocked it out of the park. He stated that Jody Wilson-Raybould was credible and Butts was aptly named.
This is Justin Trudeau's Watergate moment. Those who are historians know that Nixon was not brought down by Watergate, but rather the cover-up. Trudeau still considers this a "misunderstanding".
We are learning a lot about the players. Trudeau thinks that he can still use his "charm" to get out of this. He is arrogant. The only misunderstanding is you are not who we thought you were. You were born feeling "entitled" and you are continuing on this path.
