Expert Brier Analysis (IMHO)

I realize that I may have relinquished my uber curling fan status by not attending any of the Brier in Brandon this year.  I have my reasons.

Before I get into that, I have to tell you how pleased I am with Chelsea Carey's decision to select Jill Officer as her fifth player.  That is an amazing choice.  Class choosing class.  I think this will elevate their team in ways they couldn't anticipate.  Best of luck in Denmark.  You got this !!

Frankly, I didn't plan on attending the Brier because I wasn't sure there was going to be someone to cheer for.  Of course, I like Team Manitoba but I knew it wasn't going to be their year so I didn't want to watch that in person.

Now that he has won the 3/4 game, I feel that I can come out and confess that I am cheering for Team Wild Card!  What is there not to like about the team.  Brendon Bottcher is a total class act with maturity beyond his years.  I like his philosophy about trying to keep your peaks and valleys at the same level.  A tremendous way to live life.  You would never think that he could throw the heavy hard ones but he can throw accurate weight with the best of them.  Darren Moulding is the most exciting curler to watch at the present time.  The emotion that he wears on his sleeve is so refreshing and he can make any shot at any time.  He is a game changer.  Does Brad Thiessen ever not smile?  What a very nice guy.  Karrick Martin has proven he is his father's son but is carving his own path and not in his father's shadow.  Simply put, they are a great team.  I will be cheering for them tomorrow.

I have to say that now that curling is a "business", it isn't that much fun to watch anymore.  Now that the Slams are on, we keep seeing the same teams over and over again.  It is getting to be so predictable, it is becoming as boring as watching soccer.  Also, I have to say, I didn't like Russ Howard much as a curler (until he moved to New Brunswick) but I liked him as a commentator for the first few years.  Now, he is mailing it in.  The same comments over and over.  Yawn.  I was actually glad that Gushue was elminated today so I didn't have to hear Russ's Keys to the Game for Team Canada being "Mark it up and what I mean by that is Mark Nichols.  I was there when he shot 98% in the Gold Medal Game......"   Russ, we have heard that record one too many times.  Time to upgrade to MP3 already.

I never thought I would say this but I would also be ok with Northern Ontario winning.  I was very critical of Ryan Fry in the last quarter of 2018, but, his time off was good for him.  He is much calmer and is more humble.  He has the look in his eyes again that he had when he was a junior.  Just a kid who loves the game.

I won't be cheering for Koe.  Is there anyone outside their immediate families who will?  I'm not worried though.  The law of averages will catch up to them.
