Leader's Debate
The Leader's Debate is this evening and I am choosing to be happy and excited.
Let's review how this debate is going to ensure that I will be able to pick the right candidate/party to support.
First of all, one of the Leaders is already going in at a disadvantage for me. I asked a question of the candidate that he is running in my riding. He has not responded. I don't think it is a difficult question. If he is not answering my questions now that he wants my vote, I find it highly unlikely he would answer my questions if elected. I realize I might be making a judgement, but, that is voting is about. Find the issues that matter to you and make judgments. In my case, communication and transparency are important to me.
Regardless, the debate is today, and I'm choosing to be happy.
The debate will be held in a television studio, an environment very familiar to all four leaders. They will feel comfortable. I am assuming this one hour debate televised on tv will contain commercials. So, let's be optimistic. Our one hour debate will now be 50 minutes. One assumes each leader will have access to campaign advisers during the commercials to help them "expand" upon the answers.
Since it is in a television studio, there will be no audience so no audience participation or questions. So, we won't be able to judge their ability to defend their policies to the public or handle angry voters. Not, that there would be any. Remember, it is time to just be happy !
I am assuming there will be atleast one moderator, but I am also guessing there might be a panel. Regardless, the moderator will have to introduce themselves and/or the panel. The moderator will also have to introduce the four leaders. The moderator will have to provide some introductory remarks and explain the rules.
Our 50 minute debate is now 40 minutes.
Again, an assumption on my part, but an educated assumption. Each leader will have an opportunity to give a 2 minute opening statement as well as a 2 minute closing statement.
That is 16 minutes, but I am adding 2 minutes because they always go overtime and need to be admonished by the moderator.
So, our 40 minute debate is now 22 minutes. During the 22 minutes, I understand the topics covered with be: health care, crime, opiod crisis, environment, education, infrastructure, taxes, budget and safety and security.
22 minutes divided by 4 leaders. That will give each leader 5 1/2 minutes to address all of top topics that matter to Manitobans. Yeah, that is totally realistic. I am sure to get a lot of my questions answered.
No wonder I am so excited and happy.
