Provincial Election 2019 ......... zzzzzzz
Oliver and I have been watching coverage of the provincial election. It is a great sleep-aide. Boring.
Take yesterday, for example. A perfect example of the excitement of this campaign. As it happens, all three recognized parties release a portion of their platform or make an announcement.
First, the Conservatives. Premier Pallister appeared to take the day off from campaigning coming off his stressful day before when he announced that his government was planning on repealing the Byzantine Shopping law. It is something that sounds good, but is really a housekeeping issue. The law hasn't been enforced for a long time as it is so confusing. Essentially, by repealing the Act, businesses will be allowed to open whenever they want and if they can get people to work. To further explain how meaningless this announcement is, Pallister explained it was something no one could object to. Way to go out on a limb, there. So, yesterday, the Conservatives sent another candidate to comment on mental health. It was hard to understand what the message really was as it really didn't say anything. I guess the Conservatives were recognizing that mental illness does exist, however, mental health is better.
Secondly, the NDP party. Wab Kinew said he would take 2-3 weeks holidays a year if elected Premier. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. This apparently was actually taking a shot at Premier Pallister who enjoys his vacation time. Again, the NDP wasn't confident that we would be able to connect the dots so Kinew had a power point showing how much vacation the current Premier takes. I honestly don't think that has ever been the issue. The issue is that when he is out of the country, he is not available, other than through his wife's cell phone. Most in senior management know that we are required to have our cell phones on us at all times and we are essentially always on call. One would think being CEO of a Province would require the same availability. Whenever this is talked about, I feel people are missing the real issue. The issue is that we have a Premier who doesn't know how to turn on a computer or text on a cell phone. Regardless, Wab should have taken the day off rather than making a boring announcement.
Finally, the Liberals. The Liberals made a big announcement on infrastructure. They are going to fund infrastructure for the next 10 years. They indicated a dollar amount. Given that there is currently a Minister of Infrastructure, I am assuming he has a budget to work with, so likely the dollar amount is relatively the same. Liberal leader Lamont went further to state that the Liberals would fund high priority projects and projects that would produce impact. Whoa. I think Dougald really needs to change his name to Mr. Excitement.
Yeah. That is just a typical day in one of the most boring elections that I have ever seen. I guess I should be grateful. I'm getting more sleep.
