The First Tuesday in November
Today is the first Tuesday in November. The significance of this day is that US Elections are held today. Virginia is voting for Governor today. There are some other races as well.
The other significance is that the first Tuesday in November last year, the Americans elected Trump as their President. I remember that day well. I had an exhausting day at work. My partner and I ate dinner and we started watching the results. Hillary Clinton was well on her way and then I fell asleep on the couch. I woke up and my partner had gone to bed and turned off the tv. That was unusual. I turned the tv on and Trump had been declared President. I thought I was dreaming. I thought I was watching some sort of comedy channel. I flipped to every channel in disbelief. I couldn't believe it. Quite frankly, I still can't.
The President is somewhere in Asia right now, but he made comments to the press today about what happened on the last first Tuesday in November.
He said on the night that it happened, leaders from all over the world phoned him to congratulate him. "Who knew there were so many countries?" he said seriously. Well, basically anyone in the world who has a Grade 5 education.
He also said that a number of world leaders quoted Lincoln to him and hoped he would use Lincoln as a example to his Presidency. Trump said he didn't get it until he looked it up. It turns out President Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. "Who knew?" said Trump. Well, I'm a proud Canadian and I knew. Yet, this is something that never came up to the Republican President Elect.
And that is only a couple of the gaffes he made today. 365 days of this clown. I really don't get it.
One year down. All I can hope that in three years, he will be a lame duck President. I'll explain what that means to him when it happens.
