Alice in Wonderland/Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds
It has been a remarkable but bewildering 24 hours.
Trump leaves G7 early. Who cares, I know. I get that. But, as he was leaving he was describing his personal relationships with the other leaders. 10/10 pretty much across the board, especially with Justin, Macron, and Angella. The Canadian and German leaders are on first name basic, but he apparently doesn't know the first name of the French guy (he probably knows the first name of his wife, just saying.)
Then, Angella posts on her twitter account a picture taken at the summit. No caption just a picture of Trump sitting alone while everyone else standing against him and looking like they are confronting him and not exchanging pleasantries.
He has a press conference where one reporter asks a question and he asks the reporter which agency he is working for. The answer is CNN. He refuses to answer the question on the basis of where he works as he calls CNN fake news. That is not a new allegation.
Then, on the plane he withdraws his signature from the communique of the leaders. The communique is the only evidence that the public has to justify spending the millions of dollars in security for these ridiculous meetings. He starts to tweet nasty things about our Justin.
I don't care who you voted for, when Trump insulted our Prime Minister, he definitely is OUR Justin.
Then, he sends his top economic adviser to appear on CNN, a network that he won't answer questions for because it is fake, and the message given is "there is a special place in hell for Justin Trudeau". In true Canadian class, we don't retaliate but we point out this doesn't seem to be useful in diplomatic relations.
A special place in hell. I can honestly say I have never had that sentiment about anyone and I pray I never feel that way about anyone. But, I guess I am a Canadian and we forgive. When you hold a grudge, it is like you are holding a burning ball, you are the only one to get burnt. Anyway, what warrants this "special place in hell"? Well, Trudeau read the meek and mild communique that everyone agreed to and then Trump changed his mind.
Melania, I hope your lawyers are keeping track of all of this. It will be eventually be required when you declare him incompetent.
Then, in a remarkable show of class, Premier Elect Ford states that he will stand by the Prime Minister in solidarity against Trump. Ok, perhaps there is hope for Ford.
Then, in a remarkable show of stupidity, the other Premiers stay silent. I think we are in trouble if Doug Ford is the one political leader displaying class.
Yesterday, I was at a social gathering where I was in a conversation of 6 people. This occurred in Canada. 6 people I thought were intelligent. Politics was brought up. 4/6 thought Trump was the best thing since buttered popcorn. I was literally speechless. And, the other person who didn't hold this opinion was doing a horrible job defending common sense. The Trump supporters were loud and vocal. When I finally was able to get a word in, I made a contrary statement about Trump. They paused for a second, had no response, and just kept loudly telling us how great he was. I didn't know how I possibly found myself in back woods Alabama.
And, he really thinks he is going to get the Nobel Peace Prize for his summit with Kim Jong Un. He thinks he is going to be successful after all he is the deal maker. That is what he keeps telling us. He doesn't even realize the player has been played. This summit is a victory for Kim Jong Un. He is also a megalomaniac and this is all he has ever wanted - to be taken seriously on the World Stage. Now, meeting with the President of the United States, he has arrived. He has already won.
I'm sure the people in Kansas are even saying, "We're not in Kansas, anymore."
