Designing Men in Winnipeg and the Media

Two designing men in Winnipeg.  Both have interesting hair cuts.  The 74 year old one has a hair style that perhaps was popular in the 70s but I doubt it.  The younger one has a modern style that he changes and updates and uses it to help define his creativity.

Peter Nygard is famous for designing a slim pant that is sold mainly on the shopping channel.  Yes, a slim pant.  Basically, the same pair of pants that every clothing line has.  You can buy a slim pant at Reitman's, Walmart, and Superstore.  In other words, big whoop.

Colin Hodgson is famous for being President of Dynasty Curling and basically responsible for making curling clothes cool.  Not only cool but contributes positively to performance.  Wildly creative use of colours.  Curlers are even more motivated to win their province to get to wear a Dynasty Curling item.  Not only professional curlers love them, recreational curlers and fans love them.  It is an amazing success story.

Nygard has now become famous for being a world class creeper.  His guilt has yet to be proven, but,  we can rest assured that he is at the very least, despicable.  Yet, for some reason, he is getting front page coverage in the media.  He should be ignored.

Colin Hodgson was part of Team Wild Card this week at the Brier.  The team probably should have finished better than they did, however, all four members of the team were first or second all stars.  I know that doesn't help much right now, but, hopefully, they will realize how talented they are and keep going.  Colin Hodgson finishing as all star lead is an amazing accomplishment considering the talent out there.

But, what was even more amazing was that he won the Ross Harstone Sportsmanship Award.  This is voted by the players.  This is headline news.  This tells you everything you need to know about this guy.  This should be front page news not on page 3 of the Sun sports section in the last two paragraphs.  And the story was authored by one of my favorite sports reporters, Ted Wyman.

This is a tremendous honour.  I haven't gone out to get my Free Press today but I am sure it will have gotten similar coverage.

We will never get positive news from that other designer in Winnipeg.

Colin Hodgson winning the Ross Harstone Sportsmanship Award should be the lead story in the media.  His example will have a tremendous impact on our next generation of curlers, business people, friends, and families.  Essentially, every Manitoban.  Let's celebrate this remarkable young man with the press coverage he deserves.  This man will have an amazing impact.
