Busy News Day #2 - Paul Maurice Resigns

Shortly after many of us celebrated the Bomber's success, our focus quickly changed to that of our other professional sports team, the Winnipeg Jets.  Let's just say that the Jets, so far, aren't meeting the expectations of fans lately.

Usually, we know that when a team is not doing well, that changes will happen.  (Don't make me talk about Team Bottcher roster change again.)  Often, it seems there is a change in coaching staff.

So, I sort of expected that POMO would either resign or be fired.  That is just professional sports for you.

I am glad that Paul was able to resign because he did so with tremendous class.  Much respect and gratitude is owed to this man.

So, even though I suspected it was going to come, what I wan't prepared for was the level of emotion of fans and media.  The level of emotion for this piece of news was intense and still continues 24 hours later.

This, on the same day, that new public health restrictions were announced.  Yet, the profound emotion focused on one man's resignation from public life.

I know we feel passionate about our sports, but, again, this level of intensity surprised me.

I think politicians at all levels and all parties need to take notice of this.  It seems we have a lot of pent up emotions that we are looking for a way to expel.  Having such strong reactions to the resignation of a head coach is a healthy way to get rid of some of our emotions.  I am just worried about how much emotion is still out there simmering and what people are going to do to not let this build up.  We can only stuff so many emotions down until they bubble up like a volcano and explode out of ourselves, mostly in unhealthy ways.

Let's just check in with each other and let's extend our compassion to each other.  If you see someone struggling, they would probably appreciate some extra support.
