Police Release Video of Suspect in Sherman Murders

Toronto billionaires Barry and Honey Sherman were murdered in December, 2017.  The murders were especially heinous and there was no apparent motive.  I don't run in the Toronto billionaire circle so I had never heard of this couple until their murders.  It seems they were amazing people with obvious unlimited resources and were very philanthropic.  I can imagine that given the circumstances and the identity of the victims that this would be a top priority for Toronto Police.  Their four children, as the inheritors of their parent's estate, would also have unlimited financial resources and I am sure at least one of them would have hired a private investigator.  Their murder garnered international attention.  The media has especially been interested in this case, their estate, and all documents related to such.  Reporters often have sources unavailable to the police that can make them extremely valuable investigators.  There was a $10 million dollar reward for information leading to the capture of the murderers.

A couple of years ago, I experienced a small theft.  The loss of this item was not going to make a significant difference in my life but I did report it to the police.  I don't really know how they did it but the police were able to determine the identity of my thief and return my item within three hours.  The police told me that they were not going to disclose how they were going to handle this matter but assured me that my safety or property were not at risk.  I was both grateful and surprised with their quick efforts on an item that had little value other than sentiment.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised.  The police have access to so many resources now to help them keep up safe.  I don't know anything about these resources other than there are cameras everywhere.

So, I have to say I am very surprised it has taken four years for the police to release a video image of the suspect.  Four years and it sounds like they are not close to an arrest.  Whatever happened, I don't believe it is possible for one person to break into a billionaire's home and commit two heinous murders and then slip away and evade capture for so long.  That tells me that this is a work on an organised and meticulous group of criminals.

It is unsettling that this is still unsolved.  But, then I think of the many MMIW cases that have also gone unsolved for lengthy periods of time.  Can't imagine the extraordinary pain of all family and friends involved.

But, perhaps police aren't telling us everything they know and they have reasons for doing so.  We just don't know.

The case is just another examples of the limitations of the justice system. Also, is it just because of the victim's wealth that has captured our attention or is because of the heinousness of the crimes.

I sincerely hope the person/people responsible will be caught and receive consequences for their crimes.  I am sure their family and friends would like to know the motive for their own healing and closure.

The wheels of justice, will continue to move slowly at all levels.   We, as bystanders, will continue to make mental notes about all of this, and try not to have any of this contribute to how we view law enforcement.  As with everything, some days are harder than others.
