Busy News Day #7 - My Friends Share Their News

I feel blessed to have a circle of friends.  My friends are awesome and you can tell a lot about a person by their circle of friends, so my friends make me feel awesome.

My friends had a lot of news to share on social media yesterday.

One friend noted that she has been laid off work for the next three weeks.  That makes me concerned.  We are being told in the media that the average Canadian is only a paycheck away from not being able to pay their bills.  We are told that the average debt load of a Canadian reaches a new high every year.  She says that she is off work due to a slow time at work.  I wonder if this is predictable for this time of year or if this is Covid-related.  I guess the bigger question is what is normal anymore?

Some friends shared their worries for their loved ones back in the Philippines. Sadly, there seem to be so many typhoons in the Philippines that we seem immune to it.  I love the Philippines.  I have never been there but  have been blessed by having so many Filipino friends.  They are awesome, generous of spirit, hard-working, and loyal.  Frankly, they are the backbone of our health system in Manitoba.  I share their concern and send my most sincere thoughts and prayers.

One friend had an experience that she was ill and slept through going to work remotely.  She found out how much she is missed and how legitimately concerned people are for her well-being.  My friend is awesome and it makes me a little bit sad that she had to find this out.  She should know how valued and important she is.  More concerning is that she slept through the start of her work day.  She noted that she did have a migraine but I still find this so out of character for this friend.  She really overslept.  Not just a few hits on the snooze button, but she really overslept.  I wonder if this more indicative of a larger societal trend.  I think we are all just plain exhausted.

Another friend of mine is in Atlantic Canada enjoying fresh lobster and oysters and rubbing our noses in his good fortune.  Usually when he posts about his perfect life, I am jealous.  Not this time.  Bring on happiness and success.  I need people to share their good news.  I am ready to cheer for anyone.

My friends, Rachel Homan, Emma Miskew, Sarah Wilkes, and Joanne Courtney shared their news that they are having an amazing fan give-away.  Ok, they are not my friends, but I am fans of all of them, and I like to think of them as friends.

A few friends shared their holiday celebrations.  I am glad people are enjoying some holiday cheer and cherishing the people they love.

A few friends shared examples of how they are paying it forward.  Never get tired of seeing these posts.

Friends commented on new public health restrictions, NFL games postponed, NHL teams not playing for a week or playing without fans, and other Covid19 news.  Ugh. It seems we just got live sporting events back.  It makes me feel uncertain about what the future holds.

Finally, it wouldn't be a day on social media without multiple friends posting pictures of their cats.  I am not a cat person, but, gosh I am loving the cat pictures.  In a time of rapid change and lots of information at once, cat pictures seem like the only constant.
