Consequences

A long time ago, Roseanne Barr used to be a successful comedian.  She parlayed that success into a successful tv show.  The tv show ended.  Despite that she was the star, she apparently did no financial planning.  She has done a lot to try and make an income but has been marginalized and has turned into a joke.

Not so much her other co-starts.  John Goodman has become a successful movie actor.  Laurie Metcalfe became a sought-after actress in guest-starring roles and hit the mother load as Sheldon Cooper's mother.  Speaking of The Big Bang Theory, Johnny Galecki has also done alright for himself.  Sara Gilbert has been a busy producer and a host of CBS's successful show The Talk.

John Goodman appeared as a guest on The Talk and he and Sara Gilbert conducted the interview as they were Dan and Darlene Connor.  Sara Gilbert went to work and a result of her work, the rebooted Roseanne was born.

Roseanne was the biggest winner in this successful new series.  Financially, her woes were solved and it was already renewed for a second year.  Life was good.

But, it turns out that repugnant people can't help being repugnant.

In the middle of the night, she made a ridiculous tweet about a staff member in the Obama administration.  What was she thinking?   Well, I think she was thinking that she was "Roseanne" and that because she now had money and fame that she was above common sense.

The network cancelled her show.  Not only putting her out of work, but also putting out of work, the whole cast, and the whole crew.  At least 100 people who thought their future was secure all have that taken away because of something that they did not do nor had any knowledge of.  It doesn't seem fair.

However, I think the network did the right thing.  If she didn't have a consequence, she would just go on doing more and more repugnant tweets.

Following the cancellation, she went through the stages of grief in twitter in 24 hours.

Denial.  She tweeted that her previous tweet was an Ambien tweet and was just a joke.  She didn't think she should have any consequences.

Anger.  She started calling out the executives and started tweeting negatives about them.  Yes, because that will work.

Bargaining.  If she said she was sorry, could she could get her show back.  If she expressed remorse and promised to deactivate her twitter account, could she her show back?  What could she do to get her show back?

Depression.  She actually felt sorry for the President that he had to go through this every day.  This was awful.  Missing one key point.  No one forced her to make the repugnant tweet.  She just did this without any thought of the consequence.  No one should feel sorry for the President.  The universe will take care of him in its own time.  No one is forcing him to make those tweets either.  He is just not having meaningful consequences now.  It doesn't mean he won't have meaningful consequences in the future.

Acceptance.  She is now accepting the consequences.  She is sincerely apologizing not only for the tweet, but for the cast and crew of her show who were collateral damage.

I don't feel sorry for Roseanne.  I didn't watch the reboot.  I wasn't a fan of the original series.

But, I think this story should be a wake-up call to many.  People have doing actions without thinking of the consequnces.  This must stop in society.  It has come to be a norm that people just do what they want without thinking.  It is time that thinking of the consequences for ones actions got a reboot.  It is actually just common sense.
