Teenage Manhunt Update

They are still out there?  Maybe?  Perhaps, they have perished?  Perhaps, they are no longer in Manitoba.  How are they able to survive without money?  How are they able to survive in the elements?  How are two teenagers able to outwit our national police force?

It gives me no pleasure to raise these questions.  The story is taking up less and less room on the national stage.  It seems to be still on the radar of the international stage.  Not America, though.  They are still focused on whether or not Trump is a racist.  Spoiler alert for Americans.  He is.

However, now others are raising these questions.  They have moved from York Landing claiming the tip from Bear Clan members couldn't be verified.  They certainly put a lot of emphasis on it 48 hours ago. Now, it has been dismissed.  But, it is the way it has been dismissed. With a tone.  A tone emphasizing it was just two volunteers.  A tone of don't interfere with the work of professionals.  A tone of we know better.  RCMP spokesman was emphasizing their specific training to deal with these situations.  It was no longer, all help from the public is encouraged, it was more of leave us alone to do our job and stop questioning us.

It pains me to see that these teenagers are still fugitives and I am questioning the RCMP.  My mother was a dedicated civilian member and believed that her employer was Godly and couldn't do anything wrong.  That is how I was raised.  I wish that I could still maintain that, but, the national police force has had many issues to raise doubt about their management and morale.

The reality is that communities are stronger when community policing is more than a phrase, it is a commitment.  This goes against their training.  They are trained to be confident, to feel powerful, and that is how they are able to go into dangerous situations.  But, that doesn't help with community partnerships, which is the only way police forces succeed.  That is not just the RCMP.  We have learned that lesson internationally, particularly in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.  We have been told through numerous inquiries that Indigenous lack trust in our larger police forces and they don't feel their concerns are taken seriously enough.  Somehow, Canada has been able to escape the riots that have been in other countries.  Ultimately, our disadvantaged Indigenous are peaceful people.  At their current AFN conference, they are no longer talking about reconciliation and reparations as their top priorities.  They will be focusing on climate emergency.

If these two teenagers are still alive, it is only because they are receiving help from someone or a group of someones.  While the police regroup today, their egos should be checked at the door.  Someone knows something.  That is what they need to focus on.
