You Can Reform From Prejudice - Part 1

It hard to believe we are watching the greatest superpower on the planet being ruled by a racist.  I never thought, that in 2019, we would be watching a crowd chanting "send her home" while the President let it go without admonishing the crowd.  We can't seem to move the discussion forward.  Last night, I was present at any event that took a nasty turn.  I didn't know either of the people involved but one guy called the other guy a mother-******.  The guy being called the name took offence.  But, in addressing it, he caused a huge disturbance that affected everyone in the room.  The guy who initially used the slur was a person of colour.  The mother-****** was an older white male.  I only mention this because it is actually an important factor in the story.  It is the concept of white privilege.  It does exist.  A white male is the only demographic that historically has not been discriminated against.  The white male felt a sense of entitlement and freaked out over this insult.  Everyone at the event knew that he had been called a name.  Meanwhile, the reality is that many are called worse and they just accept it as part of admission in this game called life.  That is not right.  I'm not condoning the name calling, of course.  That was wrong but the white guys reaction was completely over the top.

So, what happened next.  The mother-****** would not calm down.  He was so offended.  He wasn't going to be happy until everyone knew that he had been insulted.  A little bit of mob mentality occurred.  The other white guys came to the mother-****** aide and were equally offended by this horrendous comment.  It was like the worst thing that ever happened to these guys.  The guy who lobbed the insult indicated he did because the mother-****** was racist.  Of course, he denied it and oddly enough, he was more offended by the insult than being called racist.

The sense of entitlement of male privilege still astounds me.  Of course, I know more than my share of white males who are not prejudice in any way.  Unfortunately we need them.  Those of us who have experienced prejudice are exhausted.  We are tired of defending ourselves for something that we can not control.  We need you to confront this white male privilege when you see it.  We need you to be our ally on the inside.  We need for you to advocate for us.  You have credibility in this group. We don't.  Help us advance the conversation forward.  Don't worry.  Collectively, we have already addressed this with the guy who made the insult.  We told him we understand his frustrations and we appreciate the irony of the reaction to the insult when he has been called much worse and much more often.  Regardless, he didn't help us by giving the white male privilege gang more information to support the ridiculous notion that it is a dangerous time to be a white male.  That is according to the Racist in Chief and he looks for anyone to make a mistake so he can support his stupidity and incite his base.

Again, I can't believe we are having this conversation in 2019.  Well, maybe that is the problem.  We actually aren't having the conversation.  We are just dividing and fighting.  We need more in leadership who want to unite and listen.  I realize it is much more complicated than that, but, having a different person in the White House would probably be a good start.
