HQ - Bad Bosses?

While everyone, including the President of the United States, was watching Tiger Woods win The Masters, I was monitoring twitter. And, I found what I was looking for.

Scott Rogowsky's tweet about leaving HQ.  Or should I say, his epic twitter threads containing about 8 tweets.  He tweeted all the things he wanted to say on his last show of HQ.

For those that don't know about HQ, please message me and I will invite you to download the app.  Whatever you do, don't download the app without an invitation from me.  It would be very bad if you did, and also I wouldn't get free lives for everyone that accepts my invitation.  Also, if you don't know about HQ, have you been living under a rock?  HQ is like the hottest craze ever, despite the crazy glitches that are super frustrating.

Once you start playing the trivia game online, you will be hooked.  Both my partner and I have won a few times, along with thousands of other people, so we have about $10 between us.  Still, there is something exciting about playing with people all over the world.  And, my friend, David, right here in Winnipeg, got a 5 figure payday.  Yes.  True story.  And, I know he will put clarify in comments, so I will say that it was under 10 grand US but once converted to Cdn, it was over 10 grand.

Anyway, so for over the last 1 1/5 years or so, Scott Rogowsky has been the main host of HQ.  He is smart, charming, funny, quick-witted, and a little annoying.  Regardless, he took his app from zero to hero.  Although the show is only about 15 minutes long, it is on 7 days a week, and Scott did a lot of it.  And, a lot of promotion outside of this for HQ.  He worked his butt off for this app and its success is his success.  Scott is also a huge baseball fan and was offered a baseball review show that he couldn't pass up.  Scott also thought he could do both shows, which he probably could.  If he said he could, he probably could.  He certainly has the drive and the work ethic and the passion.  Also, baseball isn't really year round.  HQ said no.  Scott asked if he could still do weekends?  Negotiations broke down, which means HQ had a little temper tantrum.  Finally, Scott asked if he could have one last show to say good-bye to his fans and thanks to the people who helped him.  Quite frankly, that would be the classy thing to do.

HQ said no.  Sad and short-sighted on their part.  Scott Rogowsky's success is HQ success.  Good bosses let their employees shine.  Bad bosses try to dim the light of the stars.  Good bosses find a way to say yes.  Bad bosses just say no.  Good bosses take risks and open up the sky.  Bad bosses are too scared to take a risk.

So, HQ showed no class by not letting Scott have a farewell show.  Scott tweeted his thanks with grace and class.

HQ is lucky to have such a fine replacement in Money Flipping Matt Richards.  Yes, Carlton.  HQ will go on with the Question 5 dance and the Savage Question song.  Matt is very talented.  HQ should learn from the exit of Scott and try to develop a strategy for Matt leaving.  He is that talented and he will get better offers.  Since the days of big payouts seem to be gone, HQ better think of something to keep your loyal fans loyal.

The principles of being a bad boss and a good boss apply to all, not just HQ.  Treat your employees with respect.

And, remember the most important thing.   Don't download the app without asking me for an invitation.
